Our Story

Baliwe is a name my grandmother gave me as an act of profound love and consideration. She saw me as one of her own daughters and named me Baliwe ezintombini zakwaSibisi “she has been considered among the daughters of the Sibisi family.”
As I’ve grown, I’ve come to understand that to be considered is to be seen. And to be truly seen is one of the purest expressions of love.
Every piece I create begins with this belief.
At uBaliwe, we handcraft functional ceramic vessels that are designed to become part of the everyday moments that make life beautiful; vessels that quietly become part of your home, each piece is made with intention, care and love.
Every creation carries a piece of me; my hands, my time, my craftsmanship, my patience, and my heart.
As we make each vessel, we think about the life it will live beyond the studio. We think about how a mug will feel in your hands. We imagine salads passed around a table filled with laughter, tea shared between old friends, birthday dinners, Sunday lunches, celebrations, imicimbi, comfort after difficult days, and conversations that linger long after dessert.
These pieces are more than functional objects. They are invitations to slow down. To gather. To connect. To create memories. To celebrate the people we love.
I hope that every uBaliwe piece becomes woven into the stories of your home; holding laughter, quiet moments, milestones, traditions and the everyday rituals that become cherished memories over time.
Because when you serve a meal, pour a cup of tea, or share a moment with someone you love using a uBaliwe piece, you are saying something far greater than words.
You are saying "You have been considered. You have been seen. You are loved. Nawe uBaliwe."
